Weekly Watchlist Report - 10/13th-10/17th, 2025

This report covers what I’m watching to kick off the week, key levels on the QQQs, and other important indexes, along with insights on the Mag 7 stocks that catch my interest. It also includes my watchlist, highlighting the stocks I’ll be focusing on at the open. Lastly, I break down two swing trade ideas and explore a couple of trade concepts.

News & Events

  • U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent responded strongly to China’s export controls, calling them provocative and asserting that the U.S. has pushed back aggressively. He emphasized that Washington won’t be dictated to and has already coordinated with allies, including India, ahead of key meetings this week. While he believes China may be open to dialogue, he warned that the U.S. has powerful tools at its disposal and could escalate further if needed. Bessent stressed that the goal is not decoupling but “derisking,” though China’s actions suggest otherwise. Talks are expected to continue, with a potential Trump-Xi meeting in Korea and further engagements during upcoming IMF and World Bank summits.

  • China’s customs spokesperson criticized recent U.S. actions on shipping fees as unilateral and protectionist, asserting that China’s countermeasures are necessary and defensive. The statement emphasized that these steps are intended to protect the legitimate interests of Chinese industries and firms. China urged the U.S. to acknowledge its own missteps and return to constructive dialogue and negotiation. This response follows heightened trade tensions, including President Trump’s threats of 100% tariffs on Chinese goods, which were later softened but not withdrawn.

  • President Trump announced that Hamas has agreed to disarm, declaring the Gaza war officially over. This follows a series of coordinated developments: all living Israeli hostages were released and handed over to the IDF via the Red Cross, while Palestinian detainees were seen boarding buses for release. The International Committee of the Red Cross played a key logistical role, underscoring the international coordination behind the resolution. The announcement marks a pivotal moment in Middle East diplomacy.

  • President Trump warned that if the Russia-Ukraine war remains unresolved, he may consider sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine—a move aimed at pressuring President Putin toward a settlement. The remark follows a series of assertive foreign policy statements, including threats of tariffs on China and a declaration that the Gaza conflict has ended after Hamas agreed to disarm.
